Teams that met the Element requirements for the 2010 DWIFF Challenge

  • Film length without credits between 4-8 minutes
  • Film story / content fits the selected genre
  • Film used selected location in production
  • Film contains line of dialgue accurately word for word
  • Film contains character that matches the assigned character type

In addition to the element requirements, films were also cut by the following criteria

  • Film does not contain any pornographic or obscene material
  • Provided media could be played back
  • Technical quality of final output is screenable
 
Do I need a release for the Location Elements? PDF Print E-mail
Not really... if you are able to get a release thats great... but we specifically picked locations that were accessible to the public in order to meet the requirements of the DWIFF Challenge location element. If you are standing on the sidewalk and video tape something you should not need a release form. Going inside may be a different story...
 
Can I make an animated film? PDF Print E-mail
Yes, as long as it is created in its entirety during the weekend of the challenge.  Modeling, animation, rendering, compositing... everything...
 
Do I have to be in Detroit to compete? PDF Print E-mail

Technically no, realistically yes.

You will have to have a representative from your team who can physically show up at our kick off and drop off locations (To Be Announced).  Each team will also be given a location in the region that needs to be depicted in your final film submission.  You could obtain footage of this location through various means during the weekend, but ideally you will want to visit the location.

 
What if I don't have a team? PDF Print E-mail

If you want to participate in the DWIFF Challenge, but you don't have a team (and you dont wan't to go it alone) we will do our best to find you a team or help new teams form.

Join our FaceBook page and meet some other teams, it is free and anyone that is interested in the DWIFF challenge can do so...  then we will put you on our mailing list to existing teams and help you find a home.

 
Can I use stock video footage? PDF Print E-mail

No, every entry must be composed of video footage, graphics, and content that was created durring the weekend competition from Friday at 7:00 pm to Sunday at 7:00 pm.

If you have a stock bumper for your production company that features your team name and logo that may be generated in advance along with the music that pertains to the bumper. 

 
Can I use stock music? PDF Print E-mail
Yes, royalty free stock music is permissable.  Otherwise you must have a release from the artist and publisher of each musical selection used in the short film.
 
How long do the films need to be? PDF Print E-mail

Each entry must be between 4-8 minutes.

Each entry is allowed 1 minute of credits following the film that will not be considered as part of the judging criteria.  All of the elements of your film must be included in the 4-8 minutes preceding the credits. 

 
What format is accepted for the final delivery? PDF Print E-mail

Your final entry must be provided as either a DVD or a USB jump drive.

Each entry should have the following timeline structure.  AVI or Quicktime DV codec.

The entry fee for each team in the DWIFF Challenge is $75. With your team entry into the DWIFF Challenge you will receive the following.

  • Entrance into the 1st Annual DWIFF Challenge
  • A copy of all the team entries on DVD
  • Entrance for your team, friends, and family to the DWIFF Challenge screening / awards ceremony to be held at the end of the film festival weekend on Sunday June 29th
